Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed
Call for Artists!
Looking for artists in the Greater Boston area to create two dimensional work for Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed, a juried show of art inspired by Russian composer Modest Mussorgky’s renowned piano composition, Pictures at an Exhibition.
Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed is different from a traditional Call for Entries—it is an enhanced experience!
Interested artists are strongly encouraged to come to a private workshop on Saturday, May 7, 2016 1-3pm when world-class pianist Yelena Beriyeva will play Pictures at an Exhibition with breaks for comments about the music and interactive discussion after each movement. The free workshop will take place in Somerville. Artists must register to attend as space is limited. Access to other piano recordings of Pictures at an Exhibition are available on Youtube, but this workshop will help artists appreciate Beriyeva’s perspective and artistic interpretation.
Deadline for entries is Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Accepted submissions will be on display in Jenkins Auditorium in Malden, Massachusetts at Beriyeva's public performance of Pictures at an Exhibition on Saturday, November 5, 2016, with a few select works projected during the concert. The event will also include a dramatic presentation of the friendship between Mussorgsky and artist Viktor Hartmann, whose work inspired the musical piece, and a special high school art exhibit. An additional exhibit of accepted artists’ work will follow in the gallery at MATV, Malden’s Media Center, and will continue until January 12, 2017.
Spread the word!
(I myself will not be submitting anything because as one of the jurors, it *probably* wouldn't look right.)
